The fest opens tonight, and we spoke to a couple of local outlets about what to expect this weekend.
Ottawa Life talked to headliners Quest of the Dragon King about the storytelling roots of improv:
Dating back to 391 BC, the improvisational Atellan Farce was a lowbrow, often vulgar act full of rude jokes. The ancient Romans loved it! Improv would eventually become more scholarly, however, with historians believing Greek epics like The Odyssey and The Iliad had their roots in the medium. Though they can’t promise the fall of Troy, members of Montreal’s Quest of the Dragon King improvisational troupe will ensure you will be part of something epic nevertheless.
And Apt613 looks at our burgeoning local scene:
Improv is like dancing. No one wants to be the only one doing it, but once a few people start, only the hardest of hearts can hold back. Something similar is happening in the Ottawa improv scene as new troupes continue to spring up, adding to the diversity of the local improv landscape. These days, it’s possible to find an improv-related event somewhere in the city on almost any given day.
